Poker Hands
In any form of Poker, the order of the hands are the same. A “hand” is made out of the highest combination of five cards from the seven cards you have in total (two in your hand and five on the board). You can Calculate your poker odds here, knowing that there are ten different hands you will be able to get, these hands are the following, from low to high:
High Card
High card is the lowest possible hand. There is no possible combination of cards, so the highest five cards count as your hand. If there are more high cards, the player with the highest card wins.
Pair
A pair is exactly what the name says. It consists of two cards with the same rank. The other three cards in this hand act as “kickers“. If there are more pairs, the player with the highest ranking pair wins.
Two Pair
Two pair is as easy as the pair. It consists of two different pairs. The fifth card in this hand again acts as a kicker. If there are more players with a two pair, the player with highest pair wins. If highest pairs are equal, the player with the highest second pair wins.
Three of a Kind
Three of a kind is three cards of the same rank. The other two cards are kickers. Highest ranking three of a kind wins. This hand is also known as “Trips“.
Straight
A straight consists out of five cards in sequence of different suits. Pay attention though: the Ace can act as an Ace as well as a One. If there are more players with a straight, the player with the highest ranking card at the top of the sequence wins.
Flush
A flush is a hand made out of five cards of the same suit. If there are more players with a flush, the person with the highest card of the suit wins.
Full House
A full house is a pair and a three of a kind combined in one hand. If there”s more players with a full house, the player with the three highest matching cards wins. If these are equal as well, the player with the highest ranking two matching cards wins.
Four of a Kind
A four of a kind consists of four cards of the same rank. If there are more players with a four of a kind, the highest ranking four of a kind wins. If these are equal, the player with the highest kicker wins. This hand is also known as “Quads“.
Straight Flush
A straight flush is a hand made out of five cards in sequence of the same suit. If there are more players with a straight flush, the player with the highest ranking card at the top of the sequence wins.
Royal Flush
A royal flush is a straight flush, from Ten to Ace.
